A singer-songwriter from the Pacific Northwest, a down home, blue collar boy that works hard and plays harder. Songs about having a good time, and drinkin' beer to slow dancing the night away through a well written love song. From Seattle, Washington, Dakota Poorman, originally from the small town of Maple Valley grew up wanting to play baseball, but never really got anywhere with it. While growing up on a small farm, Dakota knew that chores came first before sports and fun. While growing up Dakota dealt first hand with the demon of drugs, his brothers entering and exiting out of his life over and over sent Dakota into a deep depression. That's when Dakota turned to music, it was a safe haven.
While growing up, his mother would sing around the house. Picking up in his mother's footsteps and continuing the soulful sounds of Ray Charles and Patty Loveless, Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard playing through the stereo, Dakota knew that country was his calling. Dakota picked up his first guitar when he was 7 years old and has been singing and playing ever since. When asked: "Where'd you get that talent?" he replies. . . "It's just something that comes natural to me and it makes me feel at home."
"I'm a guy that enjoys the company of friends and family, and my AWESOME FANS! Sitting around a roaring fire with some beers a guitar and friends is what it's all about! And when it comes to the music . . . well, I plays my ass off to put on a stellar show for every single person that comes to see me. I mean business! I'm just a guy with some great friends having an awesome time on stage doing what we love to do!" ~Dakota Poorman
As soon as he slings that guitar across his body and steps up to the mic to sing and play, you know that's what God's plan was for him. When Dakota walks into a room - it doesn't matter if there's ten people or a ten thousand people, Dakota will be able to become friends with everyone of them. And when he gets on stage he makes it about the music and the crowd! The joy, the heart-ache, it's about what he stands for and what the music means to him. It's what he loves to do. If it wasn't about the music he wouldn't be performing. With his singing style of Bob Seger, Travis Tritt, and John Mellencamp, Dakota Poorman wants to proudly present to you the Pacific Northwest's' new brand of Country!
Dakota is getting major recognition from the Northwest and all of the other surrounding areas, he just wants to tell everyone you don't have to be from the south to be considered Country.
You just have to follow your dreams!
